Where raising quality alpacas with the continued improvement
of body conformation, fleece quality and temperament is our top priority!

Please call to set up a time to visit Brookfarm Alpacas soon!

Watch us grow...
We began considering the alpaca business towards the end of 2005 and actually started visiting local ranches
in February 2006. The plan was to bring the Brookfarm name back to reality ~ the farm name that Mark's
grandparents used for the original 33 acres when the thriving egg farm was active and Grand Father raised
a few beef and many other animals.

Our 11 acres of the farm had been used over the years for casual farming with Nubian dairy goats, New Zealand Red rabbits, some geese, ducks, chickens; even a “Shoshone the pony”, and Vic a beautiful rhone horse. For years, the chickens remained along with assorted dogs and cats; Lance and Rhody being the current canine Yellow Lab residents.

With Mark's retirement from the fire service, we decided to bring Brookfarm back to a working farm, beginning with Alpacas, and possibly venturing into other products, like grapes, lavender, or other fiber animals, and maybe even some meat goats, beef or lamb for the freezer -- time will tell.

Our first Alpaca farm visit was to Alpaca Shire on Burndale Road in Sonoma. After researching AlpacaNation and Calpaca for local ranches, Debbie, daughter Sarah and her friend Tiffany, paid a visit to see Vicki Arns at Alpaca Shire. 3.5 hrs later, the girls headed back home to Oakland, and Debbie back to Glen Ellen, with "the wheels turning". Pooh of the Shire had "bitten" Debbie, with "the bug". She was the sweetest animal, just standing there and putting her nose to Debbie's shoulder, being very inquisitive. Much research, and several farm visits and a few Alpaca shows later, we started negotiating a contract for Pooh in May 2006 and to tell a few family and friends about our new venture.

Fencing was minimal on the ranch, and what did exist was in disrepair. So, the monumental task of Ranch set up began. We hope you will enjoy following along to see our progress on the Brookfarm Blog. You can see how everything comes together and our first Alpacas arrive in December 2006, as well as our new Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) Maremma puppy, Contessa di Brookfarm ~ Tessa. We were most pleased with our first crias born in 2006, especially Brookfarm’s P. Rock of Gibraltar, who has gone on to be a Reserve Champion and multiple-award winner. Rocky even began his herdsire career Fall of 2008 and has his first confirmed pregnancy due Fall 2009. Our 2007 crop of crias arrived in September and October: Midnight Obsidian (Sidian), Harvest Moonstone (Harvey), and Dasie Mae (named after Mark’s grandmother, Dasie, and Debbie’s mother, who’s middle name is Mae), and Dasie Mae has already turned into a fine young maiden who will be bred Spring of 2009.

We’ve since added a second Maremma, Nicco, who just happens to be Tessa’s littermate. And the 2008 cria crop is on the ground; 2 girls and 1 boy -- all beautiful alpacas with Lady Liberty giving us great hope with her 2nd place ribbon at AWE in Reno Nevada. Rocky has a couple of buddies now in Silver Rose Memento and HVLA Black Jack, Brookfarm’s newest herdsires, to continue to help we and our clients to improve our breeding programs. Our busy year wound down to a close with National Alpaca Farm Day weekend September 28th, which was a huge success and our Grand Opening of sorts.

We now offer yarn and alpaca products on our own online Etsy store and at Sonoma Yarn. More crias will arrive in July and November of 2009 and will be adding a breeding male Maremma in June and plan to offer Maremma LGD puppies for sale late in the year. As you can see, we continue to grow and improve our alpaca offerings.

We hope you will enjoy this virtual visit to Brookfarm via our website and Brookfarm Blog. When you’re ready for a real visit, just drop us a line or give us a call at 707.996.0350. We’re anxious to show you around!

Many thanks....
To Vicki and Don Arns of Alpaca Shire and Rick and Pam Brady of Oak Valley Alpacas, where we purchased our first alpacas and who continue to provide advice and mentoring; and who have become good friends along the way.

To our newest partners in our co-ownership of HVLA Black Jack, Susan and Tom Petersen of Alpacas All Around.

To the members of our cooperative ~ The Alpaca Pac.

To all the other breeders we have met, continue to work with, and who are so open with everything alpaca.

We look forward to working with you.
